Michael Hunt Stroud Austin, 33, of N. Little Rock, died Jan. 2. Born in Ft. Smith on Sept. 26, 1966, he attended Highland Valley United Methodist Church.
Austin, owner of Austin Awnings, worked as a deputy sheriff for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. Honored by the Kiwanis Club as Officer of the Month in July 1991, he achieved the rank of corporal before retiring with commendations in 1997. He graduated in 1985 from North Little Rock Northeast High School, where he played noseguard as a three-year letterman on the football team. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he coached at Sylvan Hills-Sherwood Optimist.
Survivors include son Christopher James Austin of Sherwood, mother Nancy Talbot Austin of North Little Rock; father Michael Hunt Stroud of Jacksonville; father Kelly Gene Austin of Newport and stepmother Judy; brother Anthony Gordon Stroud of North Little Rock; half-sister Keisha Renee Nickell of Middleton, Ohio; half-sister Beth Anne Billings of New Orleans; step-brother Bill Croslow of Sydney, Australia; grandmothers Lamoyne Hunt Stroud of Jacksonville and Thelma Gordon Talbot of Little Rock; uncles Jerry C. and Clara Stroud of Jacksonville, Mike and Lori Conner of Sherwood, Richard and Vicki Austin of Sherwoood, David and Margaret Austin of Pottsville and John A. and Pat Talbot of Sherwood; aunt LaMarilis and Norman Blake of Beaumont, Texas; and great aunts Juanita May Poe of Little Rock and Sue Gwyn Talbot of North Little Rock. Austin was preceded in death by grandfathers John A. Talbot Jr., Robert C. Stroud and W.E. Austin.
Funeral services will be held by Griffin and Leggett funeral home. Pallbearers include Mike Clark, Jerry Tindall, Wayne Squatlow and Jeff Inman. Honorary pallbearers include Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies Roger Tindall and Jimmy Carter.
